Former University of Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush has announced that he will transfer to the University of Central Florida for his final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer.

Wimbush announced the move in an Instagram post he shared on Tuesday morning.

Since he is a graduate transfer, he will not need to sit out a season.

He will be competing for the starting quarterback position against sophomore Darriel Mack Jr. with the recovery of injured starter McKenzie Milton uncertain for 2019.

The dual-threat quarterback started in three games this past season for the Irish including a 24-17 win over Michigan.

After a narrow victory against Vanderbilt, head coach Brian Kelly switched to Ian Book, who led the Fighting Irish to an undefeated regular season.

In 20 career starts at Notre Dame, Wimbush completed 51 percent of his passes for 2,606 yards. He had 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

He rushed for 1,155 yards in two seasons as the Irish starting quarterback.

During the 2017 season alone, Wimbush led Notre Dame to four victories over AP Top 25 ranked opponents.

He set two Notre Dame football records during the 2017 season.

The first one was for 207 rushing yards in a single game in a 49-20 win over Boston College.

He also scored 14 rushing touchdowns as a quarterback in 2017.
