A Star In The Making
In one short year since he walked on to campus for the first time, Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has taken college football by storm. Whether it was dominating the spring game last year, or the dismal ACC, Lawrence is proving why he was the number one Quarterback coming out of high school just last year.
The 6’6, 210 lbs QB passed for 2933 yards, 27 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions this season, but that wasn't a part of head coach Dabo Sweeney's original plan. Clemson already had a star Quarterback in Kelly Bryant, who led them to a national championship appearance last season. Many thought Lawrence would redshirt his first year, but he had other plans. After splitting time with Bryant for the first couple of games, everything changed when the Clemson bus stopped off at Georgia Tech. Bryant started the first quarter, and the Clemson offense was held to just seven points. That's when Coach Sweeney made the move to start Lawrence in the second quarter, he proceed to go 13-18 (72%), 176 yards, 4 touchdowns, leading Clemson to a 49-21 blowout.
Since then Lawrence hasn't looked back, he was named the full-time starter and has lead Clemson to an undefeated record, and a College Football Playoff berth. After a complete dismantling of a very good Notre Dame team, Lawrence faces his biggest test yet; Nick Saban and his stacked Crimson Tide.
There is no doubt Trevor Lawrence is talented enough for the challenge, this is the guy that broke Deshaun Watson's high school passing records in the state of Georgia. However, there are questions Lawrence will have to answer tonight. Will the stage be too big? The lights too bright? Will the Alabama defense suffocate and shut down another top offense? Or, will a future star be born?
