The injury bug has struck again. After playing just one game in his return from a concussion, Kamu Grugier-Hill has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a herniated disc in his lower back. He has been placed on injured reserve and will have surgery to correct the issue.

Grugier-Hill had already dealt with injury several times this season. In early August, he suffered an MCL sprain that caused him to miss all four preseason games and the first three weeks of the regular season. He returned to action for the Eagles Week Four Thursday Night Football victory over the Green Bay Packers, recording no stats on 13 snaps. His playing time gradually increased over the next few weeks before dropping down and eventually bottoming out at a measly five snaps this last week against Washington. Before playing a season-low in snaps, Grugier-Hill missed the prior game against the New York Giants. He had played through a concussion the week before and had hidden it from the team. After the injury worsened, he reported it and was inactive against New York.

Grugier-Hill had reportedly been playing through this back injury as well, but it became unbearable and he opted for surgery. Overall it was a disappointing season for the special teams guru who was primed to inherit a bigger role. His final stats for 2019 are 22 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and his only career fumble recovery. While it is frustrating to see the Eagles lose another player to injury, this injury doesn’t have as large of an impact as other ones have. Grugier-Hill had been usurped by Nathan Gerry in the rotation over the course of the year. He will end his fourth professional season rehabbing and is set to become a free agent at the conclusion of the NFL year.
