Philly Transactions; Jay Ajayi Out, Jordan Howard In
Eagles fans were becoming restless because the running back position didn’t look too good for Philadelphia. They learned once again that you never doubt Howie Roseman.
Rumors arose that Philadelphia was in talks with San Francisco for one of their running backs, but Jordan Howard of the Chicago Bears ended up being the target. Roseman robbed the Chicago Bears, acquiring the talented back for a mere conditional sixth-round draft pick. The fourth-year man has totaled almost 3,400 rushing yards over his first three seasons, good for an average of over 1,100 yards per year. He flew under the radar in an impressive rookie campaign that saw him finish second to Ezekiel Elliott in rushing yards. Howard posted his lowest career totals this year because Tarik Cohen was utilized heavily under new head coach Matt Nagy. He still almost hit the 1,000 yard mark for the third time.
Behind a strong offensive line and a committee approach, Howard should be fresh for January and February when it matters most. This likely spells the end of Jay Ajayi’s tenure in Philadelphia, as he posted a “peace” hand signal to his Instagram story after the news broke. There is still a chance that Philadelphia selects another RB, such as Alabama’s Josh Jacobs or Penn State’s Miles Sanders, early in the draft to pair with Howard, Corey Clement, and whoever else will join Duce Staley’s group.
Linebacker remains the only glaring position of need, but no imminent changes seem to be on the way.
