The Philadelphia Eagles have brought back a familiar face to the offensive line. Stefen Wisniewski, who’s played with the Eagles since 2016, had his contract option declined earlier this offseason, but after no significant interest was garnered on the market, he returned to Philadelphia on a one-year deal. Depth at the interior offensive linemen positions was a big need for the Eagles, but the versatile Wisniewski solves that problem immediately. Wisniewski was a starter for the Eagles during their Super Bowl season, but his spot was taken by Isaac Seumalo during the regular season. He publicly stated his frustration with the benching, saying that he believes that it was not a performance-related benching. The Eagles gave him a chance to find a starting gig elsewhere, but nothing materialized.

Starting guard Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles tendon in January playoff game against New Orleans, and while recent reports have been encouraging, there’s a good chance that he isn’t 100% to start the season. This signing ensures that Brooks will not have to rush back. Jason Kelce, who’s dealt with a litany of nagging injuries, also sees his top backup return. Behind Brooks and Seumalo, the two starting guards, Matt Pryor was the top backup. We’ve seen nothing from last season’s sixth-round pick, and it wouldn’t be great to see him getting any major playing time.

Wisniewski, a former second-round draft choice in 2011 by the Raiders, started 24 games for the Philadelphia Eagles during his tenure. He was scheduled to earn almost 4 million this season but will earn only a maximum of 2 million on this new deal. This is just some more wheeling and dealing by Howie Roseman, the league’s best general manager. Philadelphia’s roster is now only lacking in holes, and may just be the most complete roster in the entire NFL.
