Eagles fans have been clamoring for an LB for some time, and Howie Roseman got them one. Former Tennessee Titan, Buffalo Bill, and Washington Redskin LB Zach Brown was signed by Philadelphia on Friday morning. He fell out of favor with the Redskins dysfunctional front office, paving the way for him to get to Philly. It was surprising how long the productive linebacker was on the market for, but thanks to a lack of interest, the Eagles picked him up on a bargain deal. It’s a one-year contract worth $3 million for a former Pro Bowler, All-Pro, and a player who was PFF’s third-highest graded linebacker just last season.

The speedy linebacker from North Carolina was drafted by Tennessee in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft and spent four seasons there before breaking out in 2016 with the Buffalo Bills. He racked up 149 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception that year. Brown was ninth in the league in tackles during the 2017 season and has never dealt with significant injury issues. Brown is only 29 with 94 career games under his belt. Anyone who was worried about Jordan Hicks leaving in free agency can rest easy now because he’s been replaced with a much more reliable player.

Brown will start alongside Nigel Bradham, with Kamu Grugier-Hill, L.J. Fort, and others seeing limited snaps. All of a sudden, the LB position is a position of strength (assuming Nigel Bradham keeps up his solid play from the end of the season), with two solid, experienced starters and numerous depth pieces that can also contribute on special teams. Philadelphia can make a serious case for the NFL’s best roster, as there’s no clear weakness at any position.

The stage has been set for another Super Bowl run, and the Eagles must take advantage of it.
