The Buffalo Bills selects: DEVIN SINGLETARY
The Buffalo Bills selects: DEVIN SINGLETARY
All of this excitement surrounding the drafting of both Ed Oliver and Cody Ford is warranted. Oliver might be the steal of the century unless Cody Ford takes that title. One never wants to write anything that would jinx a career but most franchises are lucky if they can walk away with one steal in the draft, let alone two. In Buffalo's case, that number might be three.
I recall reading Yahoo.com's reaction to the Bills draft and they listed Singletary as the worst pick for the Bills. I then saw some of the numbers Singletary put up in College. 6.7 yards a carry on 152 carries for 1,021 yards in 2016. A terrible pick averaging 6.7 yards a carry? Did Barry Sanders work out for the Lions? He put up those kinds of numbers at Oklahoma, too. 2017 saw him lead all Division I FBS players with 162 points scored...or 27 touchdowns. 27 touchdowns? Sounds like a terrible pick, Yahoo.
I've heard that this kid is going to be a beast in the red-zone. The Bills need all of the help they can get on offense so it baffles me as to why sites like Yahoo would suggest that Singletary was a dumb pick. He was not a dumb pick, it appears that Yahoo is fishing for drama and controversy as they always do. If anything, Singletary might prove to be the biggest steal in Bills history.
With an aging Shady McCoy and an even older Frank Gore, the Bills taking Singletary makes all of the sense in the world. Brandon Beane referred to watching Devin Singletary as “fun”. It's not very often that a player in the NFL gets that kind of label but those who do tend to have a lengthy and perhaps even a legendary career.
Of course, I'm not expecting Singletary to become OJ or Thurman Thomas but he does potential. As Brandon Beane said, “Even the guys I watched after him, I didn’t feel like I needed to erase it. The guy’s got some amazing vision, rare vision, lateral quickness, and his instincts, if this is ten [signals up], they’re up here [signals higher], and they’re very rare”
If someone like Beane, who's been in the NFL since 1998, is going to say that about a third-round pick, then Bills fans should be drooling at the mouth. I'm not sure what it is exactly the Bills are building here but I like it. They appear to be drafting smart and signing smart, two things that haven't exactly been commonplace within the organization ever since John Butler left.
So Mr. Singletary, on top of sharing a surname with the captain of the 85 Bear defense, you have brought unexpected buzz to the area. You say how nice it is to feel wanted in Buffalo. What I'm saying to you is...
Only a fool wouldn't want you, Devin Singletary.
