See what I did there? Nice right? Anyway, I’m here to tell you that Derek Carr is going to be this year’s fantasy football dark horse. I believe he will be in the top 13 and may even sneak inside of the top 10 rankings. Carr needed a significant tune-up after trading away Amari Cooper and then not signing Jordy Nelson back this off-season but the raiders really helped him by acquiring Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams.

Those two alone are going to have Carr driving right down the field to the end zone. There is this belief out there that Antonio Brown is somehow not going to be elite this year. I’m going to put this as nicely I can, those people are wrong. There is another belief that Carr severely struggled with Gruden taking over the reins last season. Carr amassed the 4,000-yard mark (4,049) which was a career high, while having the highest completion percentage of his career (68.9) and only throwing 10 ints which were his 2nd lowest of his career. That’s not bad especially when you think they traded away their number one WR and has a new Head Coach. There also is a belief that Tyrrell Williams was overpaid because he is nothing more than a deep threat. To me, that’s laughable because every WR that has lined up outside of AB has always done fairly well dating all the way back to his 1st 1,000-yard season in 2011. You have names like Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, Martavis Bryant and now Juju Smith-Schuster.

I also need to point out that the Raiders are going to utilize the run after drafting rookie RB Josh Jacobs which should be beneficial to Carr. I mean a run game is beneficial to every QB right? Bottom line is you should really draft Derek Carr as a QB2 and ahead of guys like Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, and Tom Brady. Even if you’re not sold on him and don’t want to draft him because you think he will be available on the waiver wire, you should tag him as a top priority on your watch list. The last thing you should look at is if you draft AB, why not draft Carr to double dip on those points? So if you’re targeting AB you need to to get Carr as this may very well be the reason you make a deep run in your fantasy football playoffs.
