OTA’s underway for the Bills
That’s right ladies and gentlemen. The on paper 2019 AFC East champion Bills have been holding their OTAs for the last two weeks. A wonderful article written by John Murphy for Buffalo Bills.com showcases this wonderfully, this you can find on the website because I’m too lazy to provide a link. I’m not going to rehash what he said because I’m not that lazy. I’m just going to offer my two cents of what he’s told us.
Dawson Knox is making a name for himself-Josh Allen has been giving the most praise for Dawson Knox, who’s been impressing coaches with his speed, athleticism and the greatest talent seen at that position since Calvin Johnson. However, it’s his familiarity with the playbook that has caught the most attention. How many wondrous athletes at that position have come and gone just because they didn’t read the playbook? It’s good to know someone lucky enough to make the NFL is doing what they should. Here’s a cookie and your bust in Canton, kid!
I will say, the underdog thing Knox has going for him usually drives special talents at that position. The Bills have always had solid receivers…until recently it seems. Whatever this guy can do to help the team, I’m all for it. Does Dawson Knox have what it takes to be a top tier NFL receiver? I mean…most people doubted AB and TO at one point but not right now…at least, not his receiving abilities.
The Big Picture from the starting QB-Despite Aaron Schatz basically saying that Josh Allen will suck this year, John Murphy tells us of a maturing quarterback who can sense a growing camaraderie and confidence amongst his teammates. Aside from the praise for Dawson Knox and the trust being built with receivers that might not be here come week one, Allen has also stated that he’s been sitting down and scheming ways to break the NFL passing record with Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll, or “Dabs”, an…interesting nickname ;).
“If there’s a play that he wants to call and I don’t like it, he’s not going to call it. So, it’s developing trust”
Since when have the Bills been able to trust their Quarterback? Do you think Josh can keep it up? He friggin’ better!
Injury rehab behind him, a veteran ready to go-Trent Murphy, no relation to John Murphy, did not have the ability to play at 100 percent because of the injury he was recovering from. It appears he’s 100 percent, so that means he should be able to muster about 25-30 sacks this coming season. If he can’t get that, he can rely on his Stanford Education to breakdown offensive gameplans and bring us a ring.
He also looks like a wildling, a bald-headed Tormund if you would.
Coaches build cohesion and trust-Ah yes, it starts from the top. The McDermott years have been good for the Bills, even if last year wasn’t exactly the best example of that. Fans around the land will be happy to hear that John Murphy’s reporting of relationship building far before training camp starts. This is an excellent opportunity to decipher between who wants to play football for the Bills and who wants to live a life of wine, women, and song.
All of this from Murphy is adding up to one thing, excitement. Excitement is a dangerous thing here in Buffalo. We have a way of building up teams, only to get all upset once they fall to the wayside, again. It’s cool to hear these statements from Murphy and the team, I just hope it’s the real deal.
I just want this team to be the real deal, but who doesn’t?
