Fantasy Football: Giants players to target
Fantasy Football: Giants players to target
The Giants this year will open up the season with a roster that could be considered boring and not what they have been in prior years. That may end up being a good thing for the Giants. In the last couple seasons, the Giants couldn’t keep themselves out of the spotlight for the wrong reasons. With fantasy football season right around the corner here are some of the giants who you need to know before you battle your friends out in your leagues.
Saquon Barkley
This one is pretty obvious. Barkley last year was the second best overall fantasy player. Don’t expect any setback. As Odell Beckham departs to Cleveland, more touches will be given to the weapons the Giants put out on the field. Saquon had 91 receptions last season and rushed for over 1300 yards with 11 touchdowns. The Giants offensive line has been revamped. This can only benefit the young star running back. As long as the giants stay competitive expect them to lean on Barkley hard to win games.
Draft projection: RD 1 PK 1-2
Sterling Shepard
Shepard has shown signs of brilliance in his time as a giant. Some believe he can turn into an elite slot receiver in the NFL. He plays with a touch edge and grittiness that is hard to come by. With Eli Manning’s arm strength deteriorating the short routes that Shepard excels within the middle of the field should make fantasy owners happy. Expect Shepard to be effective in his second year in the Shurmur offense. If he can continue to build on his connection with Eli Manning Shepard can be viewed as a good wide receiver 2 to have on your roster.
Draft Projection: RD 7-8
Golden Tate
Before Tate was traded to Philadelphia he was having a great year. He led the NFL in yards after the catch and was working the slot like he had done year after year in Detroit. A trade to the Eagles made him take a few weeks to learn the offense and cause him fewer snaps. When he played he made several huge plays. If the Giants can find a way to use Tate and Shepard correctly at once both could be set for 1000 yard seasons.
Draft Projection: RD 8-9
Evan Engram
Engram has shown signs of being the Giants best option when Odell wasn’t on the field. Evans problem has been his ability to stay on the field. Last year he fought a hamstring injury that plagued him throughout the year. His speed can give linebackers matchup problems. If he finds a way to better his blocking ability and gain a few more snaps he will be a top 5 tight end. Eli has shown how he likes Engram in the red zone as he has height and speed that can create an opening when there may not seem to be any. Engram has the highest ceiling of all the Giants weapons this is his year to earn a new contract from a regime that did not draft him.
Draft Projection: RD 5-6
Aldrick Rosas
Rosas had a great all pro and pro bowl season last season. He was one of the giants only bright spots. He’s a big guy with a huge leg if the Giants offense is any better than what they were last year which they will be he is a top 5 fantasy kicker.
