Matt Rhule to the Giants Is A MUST!
The New York football Giants fired their head coach Pat Shurmur last week after two seasons of football that lost all hope the fanbase had. Dave Gettleman has a reputation around the league of being difficult to work with, as the Mara’s decision to retain the former Panthers general manager who will turn 69 by the time the giants step on the field for their 2020 season it may limit them on what head coaching candidates would be open to working in East Rutherford for years to come. There is one candidate in my opinion who has the ability to bring this franchise back from the dead.
Matt Rhule is the hottest name around the NFL and may just very well be the savior Big Blue is looking for. Rhule, a New York native who coached on Tom Coughlin’s staff on the 2012 Super Bowl team is familiar with the environment and professionalism the Giants are known for. The Giants have shown that they like bringing back the football minds that helped them win previously example; Mara didn’t take too long to bring back Gettleman two years ago after GM Jerry Reese sent the team in a financial hole. Rhule has changed programs including two ten-win seasons with Temple and a legendary season with Baylor as he took the bears to the Big 12 title game as well as the sugar bowl. Not to mention Rhule a linebacker at Penn State back in his hay day would most likely get along with Saquon and really attempt to get everything out of him that he can.
Rhule is the perfect combination of what the Giants usually like with coaches and a new style that needs to be brought in here to energize and grow with the young group Dave has built-in his 2 years. The Giants have been 0 for 2 when picking head coaches in the last 4 years and making Rhule a priority will help get them back to where they want to be. The last time the Giants had a successful head coach it was Tom Coughlin who really was able to implement that tough demeanor into his players that Rhule is also known for providing. The last two Giants coaches have specialized in QB development but what I like about Rhule the most is that he has experience coaching offensive line which is the Giants biggest need considering both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley need them to perform upfront so they can become the players Gettleman thinks they can be in the big apple.
The Giants would be silly not to make everything possible happen to give Rhule his “dream job.” It is time for the Maras to admit their past mistakes and choose a guy that is a model for what it takes to coach in the National Football League.
