The Ravens are currently scheduled to have one of the easiest strengths of schedules this year. This is a bit surprising as they went 14-2 last year and were on top of their division and conference. But the games they have to play are either against a weaker division or their own division which wasn’t the best last year in terms of record. The Ravens play the NFC East, the AFC South, and their normal AFC North teams. Then you add in the Chiefs and the Patriots to make it a formidable schedule. In this breakdown,  I will go over the most important games, revenge games, surprisingly interesting games, and trap games for the teams.

Key Games

  • Browns vs Ravens

This game will set the tone for the rest of the season. The season opener and home opener versus the Browns will help to show two main things. The first is the growth of Lamar in the passing game and growth of the offense as a whole. They didn’t lose many people but they have a glaring hole still at right guard in who will replace Marshal Yanda. They have multiple options to fill that role in Ben Powers, Tyre Phillips, Ben Bredeson, and DJ Fluker but at the moment it’s anyone’s guess as to who will be the guy. As for Lamar, we get to see how the passing has improved in the offseason with emphasis on the deep ball accuracy and sideline throws. Second, we get to see the improvements the defensive side of the ball has made. Much of the offseason was dedicated to improving the front seven of the defense with additions of DT/DE Calais Campbell, DE Derek Wolfe, ILB Patrick Queen, ILB Malik Harrison, and ILB Jake Ryan. Those guys will need to improve on the run defense which was a weak point for much of the season and was shown to be the downfall of the defense in the playoffs.

  • Chiefs vs Ravens

  • Ravens vs Patriots

A rematch of last season in which the Ravens came out on top 37-20 at home, will now be played at Gillette Stadium. Only this time it will be missing one very key player in the matchup, Tom Brady. Last season, the matchup was pretty even until a Julian Edelman fumble broke the game wide open. Before then the matchup was a back and back on offense. Lamar Jackson was his dual-threat self against the Patriots vaunted defense, while the Patriots were moving down the field with the no-huddle offense. This time around we will see if Belichick can stop Jackson and his multiple level attacks, while the Raven’s defense can be even more imposing on the Patriots underwhelming offensive attack.

  • Titans vs Ravens

  • Ravens vs Steelers

This is one of the best games of the season as always. The Ravens and Steelers rivalry are one of the best in the league. This year the first matchup is just as normal. The second matchup is a primetime game on Thanksgiving day. This game will be the one to watch because it should make a clear leader in the race for the division. Big Ben and Lamar Jackson finally facing off against one another is one that most people will like to see. The main question in this game though will be whose defense can stop the other the new Steel curtain or the Ravens purple flock. Either way, this matchup is intriguing on many levels.
