No More Hold Out: Chris Jones Gets Paid

Last week, the Kansas City Chiefs struck a deal with their star QB Patrick Mahomes, totaling up to over a half-a-billion dollars over ten years. Now, their next order of business was to lock up one of their stars on defense in Chris Jones. Up to this point, most of this offseason was a slippery slope for the Chiefs and Jones, who threatened to sit out the 2020 season if he was not offered the contract he wanted. With all the speculation of the holdout, the Chiefs were finally able to come to an agreement. Jones agreed to a four-year, $85M deal on Tuesday. This deal includes $37M in guaranteed salary and a $60M injury guarantee. There is also $5M in incentives included in this deal. With this deal done, the Chiefs now have every key player under contract, and will now work to repeat as Super Bowl champions in 2020.

Myles Garrett Makes History

After a successful year in free agency followed up by a good draft, the Browns added to their successful offseason by locking up their best all-around player. Myles Garrett, 24, is not only the Browns best player, but is one of the top defensive linemen and pass rushers in the NFL. Before his suspension due to his incident with Mason Rudolph, Garrett had 10 sacks in only 10 games. With Garrett now reinstated, he is ready to pick up where he left off and has a big contract to live up to now. On Tuesday, the pro bowler agreed to a five-year, $125M deal ($100M guaranteed). He is now the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. The Browns priority this offseason was locking up Garrett, and the process was smooth between the two. With Garrett signed, it is time for him and the Browns to start turning the Browns franchise around.

Titans Lock Up Their Work Horse

Over the past two seasons, Derrick Henry has emerged as one of the top running backs in the NFL and has become the workhorse for the Tennessee Titans. He has been and will be the focal point of their offense for as long as he is effective. With this, Henry has earned himself a contract extension with the Titans for four years, $50M ($25.5M guaranteed). This deal came just before the 4 pm deadline on Wednesday, July 15, and is one that seems to be extremely team-friendly. Henry’s deal is not going to break the bank, which will allow them to sign quality talent around him. With QB Ryan Tannehill also locked up for the future, the Titans are now going to look to build a championship-caliber team in 2020.
