At the time of this writing, the 2020 NFL season is less than two weeks away. While that news is exciting for most football fans, things seem to be falling apart for the Eagles once again. Here’s what’s going on in Philadelphia.

1. Andre Dillard Out For Season

The Eagles first-round selection from 2019 was finally set to become a full-time starter, but a biceps injury has ended those hopes for at least another year. The Eagles offensive line was already shorthanded thanks to the loss of perennial Pro Bowler Brandon Brooks, and a breakout campaign from Dillard was going to be vital to the team’s success. Reports of Dillard struggling in camp had already surfaced, but with Jason Peters moving inside to RG, a struggling Dillard was still by far the club’s best option on Carson Wentz’s blindside. The list of possible replacements is not encouraging. There’s former rugby star Jordan Mailata who has yet to see NFL action, there’s rookie Jack Driscoll who has played exclusively on the right side, and there’s guard Matt Pryor who has been abused at the LT spot in practices.

Of course, Jason Peters could slide back out to the position he’s played for almost 15 years…

2. Jason Peters Wants a Raise

By this point in the article, any logical fan would’ve wondered why Matt Pryor, a guard, is playing LT instead of Jason Peters, a longtime LT. Word has risen from the Eagles that Peters wants a raise on his $3 million salary in order to return to his old position. Remember, this is the same 38-year-old Peters that was sitting on the market until the Eagles brought him back to play RG. As of right now, the Eagles are testing out their other options instead of giving Peters that raise he desires. We’ll see how that works out for them, but there’s not much time to make a decision. The stacked defensive line of the Washington Football Team is first on the 2020 schedule.

3. Jalen Reagor Out For a Month

Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse, first-round wide receiver Jalen Reagor is out for up to four weeks with a shoulder injury. The rookie was reportedly having a great offseason before the injury occurred. He hurt his shoulder while tackling a defender on an interception return. Luckily for the Eagles, DeSean Jackson and even J.J. Arcega-Whiteside looked good, but losing Reagor is a big blow to an offense already experiencing offensive line troubles. Reagor’s injury will not require surgery.

4. Carson Wentz Hurt… ish

Don’t be alarmed, the team says Wentz will be just fine. Panic arose after Carson Wentz was held out of a scrimmage with what was classified as a “lower-body injury”. As I mentioned, Wentz is okay and was held out as a precautionary measure. Let’s hope the team is being transparent here.
