Coming into the 2021 senior bowl, there were many questions about the quarterback play and what guy could separate themselves from the rest of the group. Mac Jones and Kyle Trask were among the biggest names in Mobile, both putting up Heisman-worthy performances in 2020. However, a week before the game, it was confirmed that Trask would not be playing due to a nagging ankle injury, leaving Jones as the main guy to watch.

Unfortunately, during Thursday’s practice, Jones suffered a minor ankle irritation during the team period and decided it was best to sit out Saturday’s game.  With the former Alabama Quarterback deciding not to play, Texas A&M's Kellen Mond decided it was his time to shine.

Kellen Mond’s career was extremely up and down, as he faced a major coaching change after his freshman year, going from Kevin Sumlin to Jimbo Fisher in the middle of his college career. Jimbo decided he would allow Mond to compete for the position going into his Sophomore year against Nick Starkel and the rest is history.

He finished his Texas A&M career with over 9,500 passing yards, 1,600 rushing yards, and 93 total touchdowns, finishing in Texas A&M’s top 5 for career wins, passing yards, and touchdowns.

Mond was named the 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl MVP, as he went 13-of-25 for 173 yards and two scores. He had many bright spots, including a 15-yard completion for a touchdown to former Clemson Receiver, Amari Rodgers. Overall, the Senior Bowl MVP stood out amongst his peers and ultimately improved his draft stock.

With the NFL combine canceled due to COVID regulations, this was one of the few remaining chances for many guys to showcase themselves. And it is very evident that scouts will be looking more into Mond as the future signal-caller for their franchise.
