Coach Prime and Jackson State in the Mix for FSU Commit and #1 Rated Prospect Travis Hunter
While it is customary for top prospects to take all 5 of their official visits during their recruiting period, it is not as likely for a prospect that has sworn by his commitment on multiple occasions. Travis Hunter has been committed to Florida State since March 3rd of 2020 and has never shown an inkling of changing. However, despite a rock-solid commitment, no commitment is truly rock-solid until the official spring signing date.
As the #1 rated prospect in the country, Hunter has had all eyes on him for some time now and his playmaking ability has been seen by nearly everyone in the country. As a junior at Collins Hill in Georgia, Hunter caught 24 touchdown passes and intercepted 8 passes on defense. With numbers such as his, it is obvious why he is rated so highly and after watching the tape, it is clear that Hunter is the best overall athlete in the nation.
As a standout on Cam Newton’s 7 on 7 teams, Hunter has had several passing league videos go viral here as he makes sensational one-handed catches, elite jump ball catches, and hilarious trash talking.
As the top athlete commit to a lowly Florida State program, Hunter has received many opinions about his choice of school. While Florida State has struggled for a while, they look to rebuild under the leadership of Mike Norvell. If Norvell can keep a big-time player such as Hunter in the program, he will have hope to bring in other playmakers and eventually round out their roster.
The major threat to Norvell’s success is in one of Florida States’ most prominent alumni and football legend, Deion Sanders. Now as the head coach of Jackson State, Coach Prime looks to bring the once prominent HBCU university out of the shadows to become a top-level program. In doing so, Sanders has helped JSU become a potential landing spot for many top recruits who otherwise would not consider a small-level HBCU. While Hunter has not flipped over to JSU, with Sanders now as an influence for the young playmaker, it will be interesting to see if the legendary Florida State Seminole can win over Hunter and flip him to an up-and-coming program with direct influence on his NFL future.
