Four of the Biggest Questions in the NFL: AFC South Edition
Indianapolis Colts: Who is QB1 with Wentz Down?
During the offseason, the Indianapolis Colts made a big splash at the most important position on the field: QB. The Colts went out and sent draft picks to the Eagles for QB Carson Wentz. Wentz, coming off the worst year of his career, was due for a massive comeback year, until injury struck again. Wentz has a foot injury that will keep him out 5-12 weeks, missing a chunk of the season. Now, the Colts need a quarterback and their options are slim. In camp, QB Jacob Eason and rookie QB Sam Ehlinger have both seen first-team reps. With the defense the Colts have, it is going to come down to who can take care of the ball and run the system well. It should be interesting who gets the nod Week 1.
Tennessee Titans: Can the Defense Hold Up?
After adding Julio Jones, the Tennessee Titans enter this year with one of the most potent offenses in the NFL. The issue is the other side of the ball, which gave them troubles last year as well. This offseason, the only big acquisition they made on the defense was Bud Dupree. The pass rush is suspect, and with a rookie CB leading your secondary, you might run into some issues. Expect the Titans to get involved in a lot of high scoring games this season.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Will Urban Meyer Succeed in the NFL?
Even with QB Trevor Lawrence set to start his NFL career, the Jaguars expectations are not very high in 2021. The main goal is to show progress and compete under Urban Meyer, the decorated college football coach who is now getting his shot in the NFL. Meyer is going to have the task of building a culture that has almost never existed in Jacksonville, and that is winning. Will he get the best out of his players? We will see, even if wins do not translate right away.
Houston Texans: Is Deshaun Watson the QB?
There may not be a team with a more messy situation than the Houston Texans in the NFL. They hired David Culley to be their head coach, even though he is working with a very below-average roster. He also has no idea who his quarterback is going to be: Davis Mills, Tyrod Taylor, or of course, Deshaun Watson, who requested a trade this offseason. Watsons desire to leave along with his legal issues has given the Texans issues all offseason long and does not seem close to being resolved. It is going to be a long, long year in Houston.
