Every year there is a crop of college football players that go into the year somewhat underrated. Their exposure to the media is not up to the similarity of the pre-determined stars and Heisman candidates. Nonetheless, these studs are going to have an upcoming season where they assert themselves as one of the best players not only on their team but in the country. I am going to list the top five underrated players in college football and the list is based on skills, stats, and the role they will play for their team in 2021.

5. Brian Robinson Jr., Alabama - Running Back

Brian Robinson Jr. has been a backup running back for the Crimson Tide but this year that finally changes. With Robinson’s presence in the starting role, his touches should explode this year. He was competing with Najee Harris last year and still put up elite stats. He had six touchdowns in 2020 on only 91 attempts. Robinson is not known nationally as Najee Harris was the workhorse in 2020. Robinson runs north to south really well and he is a physical runner.

4. Malik Willis, Liberty - Quarterback

Who is Malik Willis? The transfer from Auburn is a stud and he is explosive as a dual-threat quarterback. Scouts love how he has quick hands and he can generate elite velocity on the football. Willis started for Liberty University in 2020 and he is already getting comparisons to Jalen Hurts. Willis had 34 total touchdowns in 2020, 20 throwings, and 14 rushings with only six interceptions. He leads his team to a 9-1 record beating a top 15 team in Coastal Carolina.

3. Cam’ron Harris, Miami - Running Back

Cam’ron Harris is a productive runner who piles up the stat sheet. In 2020, he had over 700 total yards. Harris finds a way to reach the endzone as he scored 11 touchdowns in 11 games. Harris has a compact body which allows him to be elusive a move laterally with ease. Harris is headed into another year with D-Eriq King who is recovering from an injury meaning King will rely even more on Harris.

2. Marvin Mims, Oklahoma - Wide Receiver

Marvin Mims is set up for success in 2021 as he will have an elite quarterback in Spencer Rattler hitting him down the hashes. He had an insane season as a freshman where he had 610 yards on 37 receptions including nine touchdowns. Mims has body control when he is in the air and he is not afraid to go up and make plays. Rattler should continue to find Mims all year and this will propel Mims to be considered one of the elite receivers in the country.

1. Eli Ricks, LSU - Cornerback

Eli Ricks is one of the best cornerbacks in the SEC and he is massively underrated because he was a freshman last year which led him to not gaining much attention. He did fill up the stat sheet as he had four interceptions, five pass deflections, and he returned two interceptions for touchdowns. He has long arms which enables him to smoother defenders along with great closing speeds.
