Jerrion Ealy decommits from Ole Miss
Much to the ire of the Ole Miss faithful, Jerrion Ealy decommitted from the Rebels on Tuesday afternoon. It was a decision that seemingly coincided with Ole Miss hiring former Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez as offensive coordinator. Ealy took to twitter to announce his intentions to decommit.
In that same post he also announced that he will be making his final decision on February 6th, which is national signing day. Ealy is a 4* prospect from Flowood Mississippi and the 4th ranked RB according to the 247sports Composite.
He took an official visit to Mississippi State last weekend and is taking one to Clemson this weekend. It appears Clemson has all the momentum in recruitment right now, as a flood of crystal ball picks came in their favor on 247sports shortly after Ealy’s decommitment.
While his final decision looms, it is still unclear if Ealy will be suiting up for the gridiron or the baseball diamond, as he is one of only four high school players to be an Under Armour All-American honoree for football and baseball alike.
If he chooses football, he has declared that he will also play baseball at the collegiate level. Conversely, if he chooses baseball as his career path, it is widely speculated that he may decide to not risk his body and skip football altogether.
This should lead teams into recruiting a back up plan at RB for the 2019 cycle, so they won’t be unprepared if he does pick baseball. Either way, Ealy is the type of elite prospect that you have to take a chance on, much like Oklahoma did with this years Heisman trophy winner Kyler Murray.
