Kyle Flood returns
Kyle Flood returns
Nick Saban’s staff retooling might have a Scarlet Knight in its sights. Former Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood has been named a candidate to join Saban’s staff with the Crimson tide as an offensive line coach, according to NJ.com. This isn’t a surprising move for Alabama’s head honcho. Saban’s coaching staff has become a haven for former head coaches in need of a career revive. Notable names like Steve Sarkisian (USC & Washington), Butch Jones (Tennessee, Cincinnati, & Central Michigan), & Lane Kiffin (Oakland Raiders, USC, & Florida Atlantic) are either currently or were at one time employed by Saban’s Alabama, each one of them a former head coach.
During his 2012-2015 tenure with the Scarlet Knights’, Flood garnered a 27-24 record, earning Bowl births from 2012-2014, winning the Quick Lane Bowl against North Carolina in 2014. Despite his success, the Flood era in Piscataway, New Jersey is marred in controversy, as NJ.com wrote “… [Flood’s] tenure was marred by academic improprieties that led to a three-game suspension in the fall of 2015 and his firing at the conclusion of that season.”
Flood was also banned from coaching in the NCAA for one year. During his ban, he took an assistant offensive line coaching position with the Atlanta Falcons.
