New running backs coach has big shoes to fill on the ground
The University of Notre Dame announced that the football program has hired Lance Taylor as the new running back coach.
For the past two seasons, Taylor was the wide receiver coach for the Carolina Panthers. A recent report stated that he will not return to Panthers head coach Ron Rivera’s staff in 2019.
His recent collegiate coaching stop was when he was the running back coach at Stanford where he recruited starters Bryce Love and JJ Arcega-Whiteside, a wide receiver. During the 2015 season, he was a major influence in the rise and development of former Cardinal and current Carolina running back Christian McCaffrey.
Taylor's eye for talent will and can continue Notre Dame's distinction as "Running Back U."
Taylor will have big shoes to fill as former assistant and Notre Dame alumnus Autry Denson took the head coaching job at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina. Denson, who is also Notre Dame’s all-time rusher is the Buccaneers' fifth all-time head coach.
During his four years at Notre Dame, Denson has recruited and groomed Irish backs that have gone on to the NFL.
Last season alone, the Irish rushing attack totaled 2,695 yards with senior Dexter Williams leading the team with 995.
