The Eagles Should Let Foles Walk

You may think I am crazy for saying that it’s not worth it to tag and trade Foles instead of letting him walk but hear me out.

While yes Philadelphia would get no immediate repayment for Foles. Most people haven’t mentioned that they would in 2020.

If the Eagles decide to try and trade Foles most likely the deal for him would be a 4th round pick or worse but allowing Foles to walk gives them a compensatory pick just one year later. By allowing Foles to leave, the Eagles would most likely receive a 2020 3rd round compensatory pick.

While this move does make you wait a year to receive anything for Foles it gives you a higher pick in a draft where they will most likely receive a 4th round comp pick for WR Golden Tate.

The Philadelphia Eagles are in a situation where they have no leverage in a trade and if they tag Foles but can’t get a deal through would cripple the organization.

Nobody knows yet just how good the 2020 draft will be this year’s draft seems to be stockpiled at the top but a huge drop off after the top tier of players. As odd as it may sound the Eagles will most likely get more for Foles if they let him walk than if they try to deal him themselves.
