Finally… Some Excitement in the AFC EAST
Finally… Some Excitement in the AFC EAST
Who’s Making the most noise in the AFC East this offseason? Certainly, the Jets.
It’s no secret the Buffalo Bills have the playmakers spread across there defense. Last season it was like all 11 men were at the ball on every play. Their problem was offense. They struggled to put up points. But that could change this coming season. The bills signed Cole Beasley to a 4-year contract. He can make a difference with the short passes as he did with the Cowboys. They also signed WR John Brown to a 3-year contract. He can be explosive on the outside. TE Tyler Kroft also joined the team on a 3-year deal. He can work the middle. They even boasted their offensive line adding Nsekhe and Mitch Morse for a respective 2 and 4 years. In addition, Kevin Johnson signed a one-year deal, and DT Jordan Phillips signed a one-year contract extension worth $4.5. He is a force to be reckoned with. Most of these players will come in and make a major difference immediately. Some will need time to get adjusted. They made some good acquisitions, but it’s hard to see this team making it to the playoffs their first year together. Josh Allen is going to need a season to build rapport with his new weapons. I’m counting the Bills out this season.
The Miami Dolphins took free agents Eric Rowe and Dwayne Allen from the Patriots. Allen signed a 2-year deal worth $7 million. Eric Rowe signed a one-year contract worth $3.5 million. The Dolphins seem to be rebuilding. Don’t expect them to make much noise. Let’s not forget the last Patriots player they took was Danny Amendola last season who is not now a free agent. We have to wait and see how Rowe and Allen fit into the system.
The New England Patriots have a deal in the working to get Michael Bennett. There is even talk his brother is willing to come out of retirement and rejoin the team. He just wants the chance to play with his brother. With the Patriots signing Jason McCourty to a two-year deal, and Devin McCourty committing to come back, they won’t be the only set of brothers playing for the team. However, this isn’t the first attempt to bring the Bennett brothers together. The Patriots tried to bring the brothers together last season as they did with the McCourty twins. They failed. Once the Patriots couldn’t grab Michael Bennett last offseason, they sent Martellus Bennett to free agency. He later retired. It will be interesting if the Patriots decide to bring him back. Patriots will go down in history for having two sets of brothers playing for their team. ***Sidebar**** Phillip Dorsett is getting another chance with the team. They gave the player a one-year deal and he is excited to rejoin the team.
The New York Jets probably made the biggest acquisition in this division. They brought on the best running back in the league. That’s right, Le’Veon Bell will be wearing green next year. He signed a 4-year contract worth $52.5 million. The Jets finally have a reliable RB to control the game. We knew they had the cap space to sign him, we just didn’t know when and if. Well, now he is here. They also added some weapons for Darnold. WR Josh Bellamy signed a two-year deal and Jamison Crowder signed a three-year deal. Their defense was already good. They went and made it better by bringing in CJ Mosley to a 5-year deal with the team worth $51 million. Henry Anderson signed a 3-year deal. Kelechi Osemele came over from Raiders with a 6th round pick in exchange for a 5th round pick. Don’t be surprised if this team is a wild card contender come playoff time.
