Football’s Great Debate; Offense OR Defense

It’s the greatest debate in sports, better to win with offense or defense? There’s little doubt as to which one is more entertaining. The fantastic catches, wondrous throws, incredible runs and the six points they inevitably lead to are always going to be eye candy to fans of the NFL. With the ridiculous rules that have been put into place, it should be even more exciting now than ever.

Yet, New England’s win in Super Bowl LIII was done through a good old fashion grudge match. We all know Tom Brady did not play his best game but the New England defense may have had the best performance a defense has ever had in the Super Bowl. No, I’m still going to give that nod to the 2000 Ravens, who shut out a team that had scored 41 points the game before.

In fact, whenever a great offense meets a great defense in the Super Bowl or any sport, it seems that the defense is always prevailing. Some feel that offense is what wins games and it’s true but a season is judged only by the win in the game that matters most. Many who argue that offense is superior to defense will have no defense for what I’m about to showcase.
