Should the Bills select Metcalf with the first pick?
Should the Bills select Metcalf with the first pick?
The vast majority of whom I would ask that would most likely tell me that’s a terrible idea. As a Bills fan, the pain of selecting Sammy Watkins and watching how that unfolded has left a bitter taste in the mouth of many around the organization. Besides, there are other areas such as the line, tight end and defensive tackle that need attention more than receivers.
We all know what the Bills need to do but none of knows how they need to or how they will do it. All we know is that Brandon Beane will be selecting someone with that first pick that we have. There are many promising prospects but the Bills would be crazy to let DK Metcalf slip away.
I get why many would be angry with that selection. Then again, many of us Buffalonians will be angry with any selection. We all want this guy but we end up with that guy. If Metcalf is on the board, I will be fuming mad if the Bills don’t take him because I feel he has the potential to rock the league.
Let’s look, Metcalf. He stands at 6’5 and weighs 237 pounds. That’s bordering on the size for a tight end but this guy’s running a 4.3 40-yard dash. Who else has done that? To my knowledge, only Calvin Johnson and Randy Moss have. If they were available for the draft and your team didn’t take them, wouldn’t you too be a little irked?
Of course, you would. I know that Metcalf is injury prone but the Bills need to take a chance and get Josh Allen someone who can show off that arm. Metcalf is a receiver who averaged just three catches a game in college but averaged on 18 yards a catch. One in five of his 67 career college catches went for Touchdowns.
Forget about the injuries. He has the ability to break free of jams at the line with his strength, to out battle and jump corners for the ball and to break out in the open with his blazing speed. All I hear around Buffalo is how we need a receiver and yet we’re so damn scared the Bills will draft Metcalf.
If I were Brandon Beane, I’d be focused mainly on Ed Oliver and DK Metcalf. Worry about your needs only if those two aren’t on the board. Injuries are scary and may cost a team dearly but I feel the rewards for both players far outweigh the risk. The bottom line is that DK Metcalf has endless potential should he be drafted.
I’d be very pleased if he was drafted by the Bills.
