Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa is slated across multiple mock draft boards as the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 NFL draft. His superb speed, agility, strength, and nose for the ball make him a terrifying defensive prospect for any offensive lineman to face. There is no doubt in any draft evaluator’s mind that the kid is wicked talented. But is he skilled enough to cause evaluators to overlook his social media activity?

On Wednesday, April 10th, reports began to surface that Bosa’s social media accounts had been heavily edited to retract various posts that would be considered “questionable” in the public eye.

Per Yahoo Sports’ Shalise Manza Young, “Bosa brought attention to his Twitter feed with opinions like ‘Beyoncé’s music is complete trash,’ as he did in 2016… He also posted, ‘[Colin] Kaepernick is a clown’ in 2016, and ‘Black Panther worst marvel movie of all time’ in 2018, [along with] tweets in support of President Donald Trump,” which he has since deleted.

When asked why he took down these posts, Bosa said “I had to. There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco,” referring to how San Francisco is one of the most socially progressive cities in the country, according to Young.

Funny enough, draft scouts criticized UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen for being just as active on social media and for voicing his opinion on topics like religion, the NCAA, and President Trump, among other things. Granted, Rosen seems to be on the liberal side of the political spectrum while Bosa seems to gravitate more towards conservative.

But the point here isn’t whether either one of these guys’ opinions is right or wrong. The point is, does it even matter? Political beliefs can divide a locker room, sure, but so can massive egos (cough, cough, Antonio Brown), position battles (Carson Wentz vs. Nick Foles) and legal/personal issues (Ben Roethlisberger).

The NFL has become a platform for political displeasure and social change over the past few years, and debates still rage on as to whether or not Colin Kaepernick deserves another shot with the shield (not likely, though). But even if Bosa put back up all his deleted tweets and wore a MAGA hat in every picture he took, the worst his draft status could tumble is top five, at least. Like we mentioned before, the kid is wicked talented. And since when has character issues ever stopped an NFL team from drafting an uber-talented player? Just ask John Dorsey.
