AFC South Draft Grades
Jacksonville Jaguars: B
Summary: The Jaguars drafted two guys who can make an immediate impact through Jawaan Taylor and Josh Allen. The Allen pick became extremely important due to Telvin Smith’s decision to take a year off. Outside of their top two picks, there are no obvious impact players. Josh Oliver at 69 was probably a reach, but maybe the magic of Gronk will shine upon him?
Tennessee Titans: B+
Summary: AJ Brown falling to them in the second round could be the biggest steal of the draft. Jeffery Simmons obviously will not be able to play immediately but has the potential to be an elite DT in the NFL. They also picked two guys that I believe could emerge to make impacts in Amani Hooker and David Long Jr. I went back and forth on giving the Titans an A- for the draft but the injury to Simmons and the uncertainty to all late round picks made me side with a B+.
Indianapolis Colts: B-
Summary: The Colts only really drafted one immediate starter through Rock Ya-Sin. Outside of this pick they really did not pick anyone who shows to be an immediate impact player. However, they did draft some solid depth and the large amount of picks works into the benefit that their odds of hitting on a later round pick go up.
Houston Texans: C
Summary: The Texans draft was definitely hurt by Philadelphia trading up to get Andre Dillard causing them to reach for Tytus Howard. While Howard has potential, they need someone who can protect Watson now and Howard is not that guy yet. Lonnie Johnson could be a solid pick. Their best value pick was most definitely getting Charles Omenihu in the 5th round. Overall the Texans reached for two OTs’ but got two guys who should provide good value on the defensive side of the ball.
