Need Help? Some Tips for your Fantasy Football Season
With football season coming up, it is also almost time for the yelling, screaming, and optimism that fantasy football brings to our lives. As a yearly successful fantasy football player, I am here to give you some tips on how to draft and manage your team to a championship in 2019.
Pick TALENT Not NAMES
Probably the most important thing to do is to pick talent because of the talent, not because of the name. For example, Dez Bryant and Larry Fitzgerald are great football players, but past their primes. A more viable option would be players like Tyler Lockett or Christian Kirk, players who are not the biggest names, but their production is drastically better than the “names”.
Running Backs First, Quarterbacks Last
The most important position in fantasy football is the running back. On almost every team that I have owned, my running backs have carried the load for my team. Many feel that you should draft quarterbacks first because they score the most points, but after quarterbacks of the top tier (Patrick Mahomes, Andrew Luck), all of the quarterbacks are basically in the same tier (Matthew Stafford, Jameis Winston).
EVERY Pick Matters
When the later rounds are ending, many managers tend to not focus in as much. Some will even auto-draft their last few rounds, as they feel these picks are just roster-fillers. While yes, these players are not at the level that the early rounders are, but what separates the champions from the runner ups are the ones that pick every pick as an educated decision. This will help pick up wins on weeks that are bye week heavy and when dealing with an injury.
Prioritize your TE
Many drafters forget about the tight end but drafting a quality tight end is EXTREMELY important. Drafting a guy like Zach Ertz or Travis Kelce can bolster your receiving core, and basically, give you a WR1 at a different position. If you get stuck without a quality tight end, it is like quarterbacks, after the top ones are off the board, they are all the same.
Matchups for FLEX
When figuring out who to start at FLEX, if there are two starting slots, there is usually a pool of four to five players that can fill these spots. Your best bet is to play the matchups game in this situation. Until a player can prove that he can keep the hot hand and actually become an every week starting option, you are safer playing the players that are going to have the best shot at a big game.
