Georgia & Tennessee Early on 2024 DT Hevin Brown-Shuler’s Recruiting Trail
As UGA continues to assert itself in the recruiting rankings yearly, a major test will be how well they can keep their in-state guys at home. A major step towards this is getting young guys on the board early in their careers. The dawgs are making good headway, but they will have competition in doing so in the battle for 6’5” 260lb highschool freshman DT, Hevin Brown-Shuler.
In the span of a year, 2024 DT out of Pace Academy, Hevin Brown-Shuler, has gone from being an 8th grade All-American to now becoming one a heavily sought after freshman athlete at his position.
On Monday evening at around 8pm, Brown’s mother received a call from UGA staff and UT staff. Within an hour of his highlights being posted, he had already received nearly 100 views and the Hevin Brown-Shuler buzz quickly took off.
As a freshman this year, Brown-Shuler is extremely gifted as a defensive tackle. His first step is tremendous for a guy his size and he uses his hands well. In several games this season, he puts on display just how dominant he can be when he gets full extension on a blocker. On the very first play of his highlights, you can see Brown-Shuler flying untouched through a gap and pummeling the opposing quarterback. Many of his top plays are of him easily dragging down ball carriers and stuffing inside running lanes.
At 6’5” 260lbs, Brown-Shuler is still growing into his frame and there is no telling how much more he will lean out. Brown-Shuler has trained with pass-rush specialist Chuck Smith at Chuck Smith Performance Systems in Norcross, Georgia. Chuck Smith is proven to develop some of the top defensive linemen out of the state of Georgia along with the staff at Pace Academy.
With several notable UGA players coming out of Atlanta’s Pace Academy, Brown-Shuler may be swayed heavily by in-state pressure. It will be interesting how this situation plays out moving forward on what will be a long recruiting process for the elite Brown-Shuler.
