Fantasy Football Week 8 Starts of the Week: Believe in Boston “Philly” Scott
After several players were ruled inactive last week, it opened the door for many backups to produce in a starting role and provide significant fantasy value. With some of these players still dealing with injuries, look for these handcuffs to once again take advantage of some favorable matchups.
Teddy Bridgewater, Carolina Panthers, Quarterback
Led by Teddy Bridgewater, the Carolina Panthers have been a surprise this season, exceeding expectations. After torching the Falcons secondary for 313 yards and two touchdowns in week 5, look for Bridgewater to deliver another huge performance against a defense that continues to struggle, allowing 300-plus passing yards in every game.
Honorable Mentions: Joe Burrow, Carson Wentz
Boston Scott, Philadelphia Eagles, Running Back
Scott made the most of his starting opportunity, finishing with 92 yards and a touchdown last Thursday night. With Sanders set to miss more time, he has the chance to do it again against a Cowboys defense that has surrendered 128+ rushing yards and a touchdown to a running back in the last two weeks. As long as Scott keeps getting touches, he should be in for another productive day.
Honorable Mentions: Mike Davis, Todd Gurley II
Tyler Boyd, Cincinnati Bengals, Wide Receiver
In a pass-heavy offense, Boyd has emerged as the most reliable receiver, leading the team in receptions and yards. After throwing for a career-high 406 yards, rookie quarterback Joe Burrow clearly isn’t afraid to throw the ball. Given how poor this Bengals defense has been, Boyd should continue to play a major role in a potentially high scoring matchup against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday
Honorable Mentions: A.J. Brown, Travis Fulgham
Jonnu Smith, Tennessee Titans, Tight End
After getting banged up and a tough matchup against the Steelers last Sunday, Smith has been disappointing in his last two games. He should be able to turn things around and bounce back in a big way in a very favorable matchup against a Bengals defense that has allowed 56-plus yards and two touchdowns to a tight end in the last two weeks. Look for Smith to get back on track and finish as a top tight end this week.
Honorable Mentions: Jimmy Graham, Richard Rodgers
Philadelphia Eagles, D/ST
It’s been a disappointing season for the Cowboys and it only seems to be getting worse. After losing their starting quarterback for the season, they might be down another as Andy Dalton has entered the concussion protocol. With significant injuries to the offensive line as well, the Eagles defense should be able to take advantage and shut down a short-handed Cowboys offense.
Honorable Mentions: Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams
