NFL Week 7 Biggest Winners and Losers
A few upsets feature the winners of this week, while the losers of the week are facing a rough road ahead.
Winners
Arizona Cardinals
After embarrassing the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, the Arizona Cardinals stayed hot, beating the first-place Seattle Seahawks in overtime on Sunday Night Football. They are now 5-2 and in the driver’s seat to make the playoffs in 2020. The team has been led by QB Kyler Murray, who has 20 total TD with 2,284 total yards. The Cardinals were a sleeper team coming into this season, and they are proving to everyone that they are ready to take the next step to compete in the playoffs in 2020.
Pittsburgh Steelers
In probably the biggest game of the week, the Pittsburgh Steelers stayed perfect, holding on to a 27-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans, who suffered their first loss in this game. As advertised, the defense has been electric, and the offense has proved many doubters wrong. In Week 8, they will travel to Baltimore to take on their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens in another tough game. This game is another opportunity for the Steelers to keep making statements and keep sending messages to the rest of the AFC.
Detroit Lions
Don’t look now, but the Detroit Lions are 3-3, and just earned a good comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 23-22. QB Matthew Stafford threw for 340 yards and found the endzone once, while WR Kenny Golladay led the air attack with six catches for 114 yards in the victory. They are now 3-3, as stated earlier, and have little expectations to go with it. Many people had Matt Patricia fired, but at this point in the season, they are still in the playoff mix and have a legitimate shot to stay in that mix if they keep playing the way they are. Week 8 will be a big test, as they take on the tough and physical Indianapolis Colts at home.
Losers
New England Patriots
With a 2-4 record and a bad loss to the 49ers, it is safe to say that the New England Patriots have a quarterback dilemma. QB Cam Newton threw three picks before getting benched, and QB Jarrett Stidham did not do much better, throwing a pick in ten attempts. The two combined to go 15/25 for 162 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions. Add to that a talentless team and a rough schedule ahead, and there are real problems in New England. Things do not look good for the Patriots and they do not look like they are going to get better.
Dallas Cowboys
It seems to be a weekly spot for them, but the Dallas Cowboys organization is a mess right now. For starters, they looked outmatched against a lowly Washington team, losing 25-3. After QB Andy Dalton got hit hard on a dirty hit, nobody was there to step up, and the team just looks like it has no heart. It is a tough time for the Dallas Cowboys in what is looking like a lost season, even in a division as bad as the NFC East.
Chicago Bears
Even at 5-2, the Chicago Bears are in a bad place right now. On Monday Night Football, Chicago’s offense was exposed, scoring zero offensive touchdowns, and totaling 279 total yards. The Bears have been able to hide these issues so far with their stout defense, but they cannot hide forever. Chicago has scored 30 points once this season and scored under 20 points three times this season. Their schedule is getting tougher also with games against New Orleans and Tennessee, so if their offense does not pick it up, they can be in serious trouble to fall out of the playoff race in a quality NFC.
