The State of the Giants… Who Knows?

The Giants around this time last year were in a similar position with a very high pick. The difference is as time went by last April the Giants began to show their cards as Dave Gettleman and his scout team drooled watching Saquon Barkley in his pro day and combine. This year has been completely different the mock drafts have many different names for the Giants at 6 in the 2019 draft. The guy that is in most mocks and is linked with the Giants is quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Haskins seems like the perfect prospect for the Giants. He has a Good frame, a personality to handle the bright lights in New York, and he wants to be a giant being raised as a fan Haskins’ dream could come true April 25th. The reports that the Giants haven’t done their homework on him makes me think that the Giants plan is to go defense and have planned on going defense for a while. If the G-men love Haskins and those reports were just smokescreens they cannot hesitate to take him with all that cap room they will be getting in the 2020 offseason to already have your quarterback is a good spot to be in. The Giants will not take a risk though if you listen to GM Dave Gettleman talks he constantly says missing on a QB that high sets you back 5 years. The Giants are going to make sure whoever they take at 6 is a sure thing. I can’t see them taking a Quarterback at 17 if they pass on one at 6.  I would stay away from picking a QB at 17 the Browns have tried to pick best available with their first pick and Quarterback with their second in prior years and we all got to see how that worked out. The defenders in this year's draft are remarkable they’re plenty of pro bowlers in this draft and the Giants will have a shot to get two of them. For Dave Gettleman to hit on both picks is a must as he just questionably traded the fans favorite player a missed pick here and another bad season can lead to a quick end of the Gettleman era. With the outcome of last years draft looking good as they were able to draft 4 guys that are going to be apart of the solution. There is a reason for optimism. They have 12 picks in this year’s draft and to hit on at least half of them is a must before fans and ownership begin to lose faith. Expect the Giants to get a pass rusher they have lacked for the last couple years with the sixth pick. The names Gary, Oliver, Sweat, and Burns are ones you should remember come draft night for Giants fans unless a trade occurs or someone that they cannot pass up drops to them. The Giants have upgraded their offensive line again this offseason with the addition of Kevin Zeitler. Gettleman loves his hog mollies and at seventeen I expect to see one of them put a blue hat on. Andre Dillard, Jonah Williams, and Jawaan Taylor should be available for the Giants in the middle of the first round, don’t be surprised if Gettleman sure up the right side of his line with this pick.
